Before being commissioned in 2011 to design and install the mural, Shannon Johnson provided consulting service to the historic district in 2009, assisting with preliminary research, development and zoning preparations for the architectural mural installation to depict the past, present and future of the Historic Cole-Noble District of downtown Indianapolis.

Johnson was commissioned in the spring of 2011 by the Cole-Noble District for design and development of the architectural mural.

The mural, funded in part by an Imagine Grant through Indianapolis Downtown, Inc., was completed and dedicated in May, 2012.

The 400-sq-ft triptych mural is on the north wall of the Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center located on the southwest corner of College & Market streets, downtown Indianapolis; and depicts the past, present and future vision of the culture, people and industry of the neighborhood.
